4 Steps to Assessing Your Key Talent


  • Preparation: During this phase, we work with you to understand what competencies are being assessed. We start with understanding the direction the organization is going, and what skill sets and behaviors are critical in getting there. Some organizations have already defined these competencies. For others, we work with you to identify and develop these. We then identify those assessments and methods for measuring competencies and behaviors. Finally, we work with you to identify and communicate with those who will participate in the process.
  • Assessment: The assessment phase begins with the administration of the selected assessments. The majority of these assessments are conducted online. Assessments are administered through a simple process conducted by one of our Assessment Project Managers. Once the assessments are complete, a TAP facilitator will conduct a behavioral interview in which we dig deeper into the results, as well as assess additional leadership qualities.
  • Leadership Intelligence Profile: Once the results from the Assessment phase are analyzed, our Assessment Project Managers will prepare a Leadership Intelligence Profile. The Leadership Intelligence Profile provides an at-a-glance overview of each participant's assessment results, as well as our recommendations for development and further action. When assessing multiple employees, we prepare a Talent Matrix which group individuals into talent categories. These matrices are very useful in conducting Talent Review Meetings and developing a plan for the organization.
  • Development: While some talent assessment processes stop at the assessment phase, we work with each organization in establishing development plans for each individual. This begins with a debrief of assessment results with the individual, and can include the participant's manager where appropriate. We work with the participant to begin a development plan which will be shared with his or her manager. We also put processes in place which will assist in ensuring follow-through and accountability for these action plans. Further coaching is also available, where appropriate.
